Granite Loop-In
TL632-TL6985 Project
Overview
The Granite Loop-in TL632-TL6985 project was approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in March 2025 as a reliability project to provide SDG&E’s Granite Substation with an additional source of electric transmission feed. This project will interconnect SDG&E’s Granite Substation and Los Coches Substation by installing a new 69kV underground transmission line that will help improve the electric reliability and resiliency of the interconnected substations.
Project Benefits
- Improves reliability to the surrounding communities
- Provides a more robust electric grid which can help mitigate potential outages and minimize outage durations
- Enhances electric reliability and resiliency of the interconnected systems
About the Project
The project is located in the City of El Cajon and County of San Diego. Construction activities include installing 2.5 miles of new 69kV underground transmission line, minor overhead wire stringing, pole removals, and the installation of a cable pole.
The new underground transmission line will connect at the east side of SDG&E’s Granite Substation at Naranca Avenue and Terra Lane. It will run south on Naranca Avenue to E. Madison Avenue, then head east on E. Madison Avenue to Cerro Sereno, and continue to SDG&E’s power line corridor near Camino Monte Sombra, just before Calle De La Sierra.
What to Expect
Construction crews and vehicles will be active throughout the area during construction. Our work may require temporary lane/road reductions, closures or detours near the construction area during approved work hours. Temporary “No Parking” may be in effect and will be marked with signs. Traffic control measures will be in place during construction to help manage the flow of traffic. For your safety and the safety of others, please follow all posted signs and markers.
Construction activities may take place in phases and may occur intermittently with the possibility of multiple construction locations and activities taking place simultaneously, when permitted. Steel plates will cover the affected construction areas as necessary until the work is completed and the impacted area is restored.
Traffic delays, noise, and dust in the area may increase due to the construction activities. We encourage you to consider adjusting your travel plans as needed. While not anticipated, a temporary power outage may be required for safety reasons. If so, you will be notified in advance so you can prepare for a planned outage. SDG&E is committed to minimizing impacts on the community to the extent possible and completing the work safely and efficiently. Work hours, traffic control measures, and noise restrictions are established by local jurisdictions.
