SDG&E’s Wildfire and
Climate Resilience Center
SDG&E’S Wildfire and Climate Resilience Center is a beacon of innovation, integrating cutting-edge fire science, weather forecasting, and supercomputing modeling. This facility is designed to enhance our ability to anticipate and respond to both immediate weather risks and long-term climate trends. By harnessing advanced technologies like AI and predictive modeling, we are better equipped to protect our grid and our communities from the increasing threat of wildfires.
But this center is more than just a technological marvel. It’s a collaborative space where we join forces with regional safety partners, government agencies, and local communities. Together, we are creating a united front against wildfires and other emergencies, ensuring a swift and coordinated response to any regional threats.
Emergency Operations Center
The Emergency Operations Center is the centralized hub for SDG&E’s coordinated emergency response activities and situational awareness.
The new EOC replaces SDG&E’s original facility built in 1999 and is designed to accommodate response to all emergencies, fusing advanced technologies and communication tools to further enhance risk management along with employee and public safety.
Fire Science and Climate Adaptation Lab
This lab brings together industry-leading fire and climate science professionals, weather forecasting and supercomputing modeling that provide SDG&E – along with regional partners like Scripps Institution of Oceanography – unmatched insights into near-term weather risks and longer-term climate trends that enhance operational preparedness.
Advanced Wildfire Mitigation and AI Lab
Focused on advancing SDG&E’s wildfire mitigation planning and risk analysis, the team assesses near and long-term risks using the latest technologies, including AI and machine learning paired with institutional knowledge and data.
